  1. AJ, I read a troubling report of the government doing an oil lease in Yasuni NP. Considering their experience with the oil business I sure hope they were careful. What have you heard?
    BTW, thanks for the photos of the military day, I’ve wondered what they did with the old airport.

    • Yes, I have heard. And yes, the news is bad.

      A few months ago, President Correa decided to give up on an international plan to save the Yasuní National Park. Since then, oil companies have moved in and started building roads and possibly started exploration. It’s not all completely clear. The people were able to gather enough signatures for a referendum but it has been refused by the Correa government for lack of signatures.       All in all, it’s not a pretty situation.
